Accessibility and Mobility

By : Pada Lumba

Some people judge the accessibility influenced by the distance of the two locations. This means that the shorter the distance the higher the 2 locations accessibility, because it is easy to reach it. But what happens when the traffic jam, we are going not easy to reach our goal location despite in fact our goal location is close. So that people would assume that the time is more appropriate to determine the accessibility than distance. For example, two locations is far one each other but have  good transportation system that can be passed by vehicle with high velocity, so resulting travel time is shorter, which indicates that the accessibility for both locations is high.

To improve accessibility could be done with improving transportation systems such as widening of the road, make new roads, and improvement public transport services. Improved accessibility does not guarantee to increase the mobility of the people. But the investment in the infrastructure will be in vain if the people didn’t feel benefit as the result of Inability of the people to pay the transportation cost, it’s indicated that mobility is low. Thus, in making policy regarding solve transportation problems did not only focus on improving accessibility, but also must be able to ensure that everyone can get advantage of existing infrastructure. It can be concluded that for assestment accessibility  can be seen of distance, time and cost factors, which all three of these components are resistance journey factor.
